Terms & Conditions for Study Aid Recipients.

These Terms and Conditions (“T&Cs”) apply to all students who have been selected and approved to receive study aid from VAF SA (NPC) through its sub-structure VAF SA Study Aid (“the Program”). Acceptance of study aid constitutes full acceptance of these Terms & Conditions.

 

1. Nature of the Study Aid

1.1 The VAF SA Study Aid Program is not a competition and does not involve any form of prize draw or contest.
1.2 Study aid is awarded at the sole discretion of VAF SA, subject to available funding and alignment with the objectives of the Program.
1.3 Study aid is provided on a once-off basis per calendar year. Students may reapply annually, subject to approval.
1.4 Receipt of study aid in one year does not guarantee approval in subsequent years.

 

2. Eligibility Criteria

2.1 Study aid is available only to male students whose father and/or grandfather is a military veteran.
2.2 Applicants must be South African residents or hold a valid passport.
2.3 Applicants must meet the minimum age and admission requirements of the selected vocational training institution.
2.4 VAF SA reserves the right to request documentary proof of eligibility at any stage.

 

3. Approved Field of Study – Craftsmanship Trades

3.1 Study aid is strictly limited to hands-on craftsmanship and practical trade skills, performed primarily through manual and technical work.
3.2 Approved fields include, but are not limited to:

  • Electrician

  • Mechanic / Automotive trades

  • Plumbing

  • Welding

  • Carpentry

  • Boiler making

  • Fitting and turning

  • Other recognised practical trade crafts that may lead to employment or self-employment

3.3 The Study Aid does not apply to:

  • University studies

  • Academic degree or diploma programs 

  • Theory-based or office-based qualifications

  • Information Technology (IT) or computer-based studies

 

4. Accredited Vocational Training Institutions

4.1 Students must enroll at a registered and accredited vocational training college in South Africa.
4.2 The institution must provide practical trade training and/or apprenticeship pathways relevant to the approved craft.
4.3 Proof of enrolment and institutional accreditation may be required before study aid is released.

 

5. Apprenticeship and Practical Training

5.1 Training must include a practical, hands-on component, such as an apprenticeship, learnership, or workshop-based training.
5.2 The training must align with the approved craft and the objectives of the VAF SA Study Aid Program.
5.3 Failure to commence or continue practical training may result in withdrawal of study aid.

 

6. Use of Study Aid

6.1 Study aid is provided solely for approved study-related purposes, which may include:

  • Tuition or training fees

  • Prescribed tools and equipment

  • Approved training materials

6.2 Study aid may not be used for personal or non-study-related expenses.
6.3 Any misuse of funds may result in immediate termination of support and possible recovery of funds.

 

7. Monitoring and Compliance

7.1 Recipients may be required to submit proof of attendance, progress updates, or training confirmation.
7.2 VAF SA reserves the right to suspend or terminate study aid if the recipient:

  • Breaches these Terms & Conditions

  • Provides false, misleading, or incomplete information

  • Fails to remain enrolled in the approved training program

 

8. Publicity and Media Consent

8.1 By accepting study aid, recipients consent to the use of their name, image, photographs, videos, and testimonials for promotional and awareness purposes relating to VAF SA.
8.2 All media content produced shall remain the exclusive intellectual property of VAF SA, with no further compensation payable.

 

9. Personal Information and Privacy

9.1 Personal information collected will be used solely for the administration of the Study Aid Program and the promotion of VAF SA, in accordance with applicable data protection laws.
9.2 VAF SA will take reasonable measures to protect personal information.

 

10. Termination of Study Aid

10.1 VAF SA reserves the right to withdraw or terminate study aid at any time if:

  • These Terms & Conditions are breached

  • Program objectives are no longer met

  • Funding constraints arise

 

11. Amendment of Terms

11.1 VAF SA reserves the right to amend these Terms & Conditions at any time without prior notice.
11.2 Continued participation in the Program constitutes acceptance of any revised terms.

 

12. Legal Disclaimer

12.1 VAF SA Study Aid is a voluntary assistance program and does not constitute a contract of employment, sponsorship agreement, or guarantee of continued funding.
12.2 VAF SA shall not be held liable for any loss, damage, or expense incurred as a result of participation in the Program, including but not limited to training outcomes, institutional decisions, or personal circumstances.
12.3 All decisions taken by VAF SA in relation to eligibility, approval, funding, and termination of study aid are final and binding.

 

13. Acceptance of Terms

13.1 By accepting study aid from VAF SA, the recipient confirms that they have read, understood, and agreed to these Terms & Conditions in full.
